2degrees launches new Wi-Fi 7 modem

2degrees has become the first telco in New Zealand to offer lightning-fast Wi-Fi 7 routers to customers, allowing users to make the most of their multi-Gbps plans.

2degrees will offer the TP Link BE22000 (HB810) router for HyperFibre connections , which uses the latest Wi-Fi 7 technology to take full advantage of the latest technology.

Chief Business Officer Andrew Fairgray said while the product will appeal to consumers who want the latest tech, the real use case sits with small to medium sized businesses.

“Wi-Fi 7 is a huge step for customers who are looking to get the fastest possible speed via their Wi-Fi connection,” said Fairgray.

“Previously Wi-Fi was thew choke point for speeds, this new technology solves that."

Fairgray says the modem will be particularly game-changing for small to medium-sized organisations.

“With this modem, and a Hyperfibre connection, you can get great connectivity at a price point that would have been unthinkable years ago. This will be ideal for small and medium sized businesses with a range of employees working online at the same time, such as architectural firms, co-working spaces, design studios, and more.

“At 2degrees, we always make it as easy as possible for our customers to have the best possible connectivity. This is just another example of how we’re constantly looking to release products that can make a meaningful difference to our customers.”

Fairgray says that 2degrees also expects the router to appeal to consumers such as gamers who want fast speeds and low latency for online gaming.

The modem will offer 12 Streams of Wi-Fi across 2.4Ghz (1376 Mbps), 5Ghz (8640 Mbps) and 6Ghz (11520 Mbps), delivering lower latency and higher performance.

The router (HB810) has 1× 10 Gbps WAN, 1× 10 Gbps LAN port and 2× 2.5 Gbps LAN ports.

It supports Hyperfibre 2Gbps, 4Gbps, supports Wi-Fi MESH Satellite add-on for extended Wi-Fi coverage, and has app support for:

  • Running an Ookla router based speed test on your internet connection
  • Changing your Wi-Fi Name and Password
  • Adding parental controls to connected devices
  • Data usage
