FAQs
Should I choose a Managed Install or Self-Install?
If you select a Managed Install, it will be installed by 2degrees through a field partner. 2degrees will deliver the Starlink hardware to your specified address and 2degrees’ field partner will bring all other required installation equipment.
Managed Installations include satellite dish mounting, service activation, and post-installation photos. It’s a price-on-application (site-dependent) option. You will be asked to provide images so 2degrees can estimate what your installation might cost. If you choose the Self-Install option, you can purchase a range of mounts.
Will I need my own hardware?
The Starlink Kit includes everything you need to set up your internet service. However, customers may choose to use third-party hardware, such as routers/firewalls for SD-WAN capabilities. Your 2degrees Account Manager can work with you to supply what you need.
Can I use my own professional Starlink hardware installer?
Yes, you can select the Self-Install option from 2degrees. 2degrees will deliver the hardware to your desired location where you or your installer can collect the hardware for installation. 2degrees makes no guarantees about installations performed by third parties.
What's the difference between the High-Performance Kit and the Standard Kit?
-
The High-Performance Kit will maximise your 2degrees Business Starlink plan and is the only kit 2degrees will sell alongside 2degrees Business Starlink plans for the reasons outlined below:
-
The High-Performance Kit is a higher power kit, which allows for greater speeds and less latency.
-
The High-Performance Kit is more water resistant. The High-Performance Kit is rated IP56 and is resistant to water jets. The Standard Kit is rated IP54, or resistant to water spray.
-
The High-Performance Kit performs better in hot weather compared to the Standard Kit. Download speeds are typically three times better when 35°C (95°F)
-
The High-Performance Kit also performs better than the Standard Kit in the snow with a 1.7 times better snow melt capability (inches/hour).
-
The High-Performance Kit has better visibility of satellites. Your Starlink dish needs a clear view of the sky so it can stay connected with the satellites as they move overhead. The dish included in the High-Performance Kit captures 35% more sky, allowing it to connect to more satellites and better serve users with atypical installations, unavoidable obstructions, or in polar (over 59 degrees latitude) and equatorial regions where there are fewer visible satellites.
Why does my 2degrees Business Starlink service cost more than buying it directly from Starlink?
-
2degrees is providing a Business service, not a Consumer service. This comes with not only a higher cost but higher speeds, higher priority on the network, a Business dish and more.
-
2degrees’ price is higher than the Starlink market rate. This is due to offering:
-
Solution design and integration with 2degrees' full wrap-around services
-
Simplified procurement
-
Managed installation, service provisioning, and priority support escalation via our New Zealand-based Managed Networks Team
-
Hardware sparing held within New Zealand
-
How long am I contracted for?
Customers can sign up for open-term or 12, 24 or 36-month terms to suit their needs.
What happens when I exceed my priority data? Can I purchase more?
Starlink's service continues to mature. The current state of service when allocated priority data is exceeded (when operating within New Zealand) is that service is de-prioritised to a Consumer connection on the network. This 'standard' data is unlimited for the remainder of the billing period. Today, 2degrees Business Starlink customers are unable to purchase more priority data. More information on this can be found here: https://www.starlink.com/legal?regionCode=NZ
What support does 2degrees offer above standard Starlink support?
-
A single point of contact
2degrees is your single point of contact for your 2degrees Business Starlink service in New Zealand. Customers can call 0800 65 65 38 or email nscsupport@business.2degrees.nz to reach 2degrees’ New Zealand-based Managed Networks Team. Note that support is only available via email for Starlink Direct Customers. -
Level 1 assurance
2degrees’ support team can help triage your service incident and troubleshoot your service for a quick resolution. -
Managed Starlink support
2degrees receives priority support from Starlink to respond and resolve your incident. -
Hardware replacement
2degrees carries an inventory of Starlink Kits in New Zealand. If your hardware fails under warranty, we can dispatch a replacement unit and get your business reconnected again much faster than if spare equipment was not stored onshore.
Please refer to the 2degrees Starlink Satellite Services SLA linked here: https://business.2degrees.nz/legal-contracts
Does 2degrees Business Starlink product support Client VPN, site-to-site VPNs and SD-WAN?
Yes, Starlink supports outbound VPNs. NAT traversal support via TCP or UDP is required on the VPN appliance. VPNs that rely on protocols 47 (GRE), 50 (ESP), 51 (AH), 115 (L2TP) are dropped at this time. This VPN functionality would need to be provided by an external device. There is no VPN capability on the Starlink-provided equipment.
Service is not suited or intended as a mission critical or safety-of-life service and provided on a best-efforts basis. Throughput may be less than the maximum speed provided. The Starlink Satellite terminal must be installed with an uninterrupted view to the sky.
Equipment & Installation
You must purchase Starlink equipment to use the service. Starlink equipment price on application plus shipping and handling fee. 12-month warranty. Installation costs are excluded. 2degrees recommends that you use a professional to install the equipment following Starlink’s instructions. Failure to install correctly may affect service performance. Starlink equipment must not be installed in a moving vehicle, or vessel unless Starlink has designated the equipment for that specific use. 2degrees will invoice you directly for all Starlink equipment and services as an Authorised Starlink Reseller.
^Starlink Fair Use Policy
This policy describes how Starlink manages network traffic and allocates customer data based on your service plan. A monthly volume of traffic will be prioritised above non-prioritised traffic depending on your service plan. The volume of prioritised traffic is specified in the service plan. Only service plans supplied with ‘mobility’ may relocated within New Zealand at no extra charge. Service mobility outside New Zealand is not guaranteed. Starlink not available everywhere.
