Unlock your locked 2degrees phone
In this article
If you bought your mobile phone five or more years ago, or have an older secondhand phone, it may be locked to the 2degrees network. If so, you won't be able to use it with a SIM card from other New Zealand or international networks unless you unlock it.
The great news is that we can help with that.
It's important to note that unlocking your phone from the network is a different process to unlocking your phone SIM card. If you've incorrectly entered the passcode that you set to protect your mobile SIM card three times, you'll need a unique 8-digit long Personal Unlocking Key (or PUK code). Follow this link if you need to find your PUK code.
How do I unlock my locked phone?
Unlocking your 2degrees phone is free and easy. Just follow the steps below:
Your IMEI number is the serial number for your phone.
You can find your phone’s unique IMEI number using any of these methods:
- Find your IMEI number
- Dial *#06#
- If you still have the packaging your phone came in, the IMEI number will be printed on the box
- Look under your phone’s battery
- Make sure you have your 2degrees SIM in the phone and get your unlock code either by:
- Sending Unlock followed by your IMEI number to 299, or
- Follow the prompts for how to unlock you phone on this page.
- Do not try to guess the unlock code.
- When you insert a SIM card other than a 2degrees SIM in your phone, you’ll be prompted to enter the unlock code. It’s super important to double check the number is correct before submitting so you don’t completely lock your phone. See below for what to do if this happens.
You'll get a text confirming you’ve unlocked your phone and you can now use any network in New Zealand or overseas.
I've tried entering my phone unlock code multiple times and now I can't use my phone
Uh-oh. If you have entered the unlock code incorrectly 10 or more times, your phone may be locked completely. This means you cannot use it on any network.
If this has happened to you, you can take your phone to your nearest 2degrees retail store, but please be aware that there may be a repair charge involved which can only be determined once we've sent your phone to the manufacturer.
How do I find out if my phone is locked to 2degrees?
We haven't locked phones to our network for years (it doesn't sit well with us and our mission to Fight for Fair). If you have an older phone and want to check, insert a SIM card other than 2degrees in your phone; if it's locked, it'll prompt you to enter the unlock code.
Remember that if you're planning to go overseas, you can use your 2degrees phone in heaps of international destinations without the hassle of having to buy a SIM card at your overseas destination. Check out our Roaming packs.
