Unlock your locked 2degrees phone

If you bought your mobile phone five or more years ago, or have an older secondhand phone, it may be locked to the 2degrees network. If so, you won't be able to use it with a SIM card from other New Zealand or international networks unless you unlock it.

The great news is that we can help with that.

It's important to note that unlocking your phone from the network is a different process to unlocking your phone SIM card. If you've incorrectly entered the passcode that you set to protect your mobile SIM card three times, you'll need a unique 8-digit long Personal Unlocking Key (or PUK code). Follow this link if you need to find your PUK code.

How do I unlock my locked phone?

Unlocking your 2degrees phone is free and simple. All you need is your IMEI number. Your IMEI number is 15 digits long and can be found by dialling *#06# into your phone or by looking under your phone battery.

If your phone is locked to another network, follow the steps below:

  • Have your IMEI ready.
  • Contact the network provider that your phone has been locked to. If you are not sure which network it is locked to, please think about the last sim card that was successfully working in that phone and what network it was connected to.
  • Once you have your unlocking code, follow the relevant instructions.
  • Once your phone is no longer network locked, please insert your 2degrees sim card which should now connect to our network
  • Please note that 2degrees cannot unlock a network locked phone locked to another network.

If your phone is locked to the 2degrees network, follow the steps below:

  • Have your IMEI ready.
  • Make sure you have your 2degrees SIM in the phone.
  • Text "UNLOCK [IMEI Number]" to 299.
  • You should receive a reply to your text message and you must accept this message by replying "Y".
  • Contact the Customer Care Team if you have any issues unlocking your phone.

I've tried entering my phone unlock code multiple times and now I can't use my phone

Uh-oh. If you have entered the unlock code incorrectly 10 or more times, your phone may be locked completely. This means you cannot use it on any network.

If this has happened to you, you can take your phone to your nearest 2degrees retail store, but please be aware that there may be a repair charge involved which can only be determined once we've sent your phone to the manufacturer.

How do I find out if my phone is locked to 2degrees?

We haven't locked phones to our network in ages because that doesn't go with our mission to Fight or Fair. If you've got an older phone and want to check if it's locked, just pop a SIM card in from another provider. If it's locked, it'll ask you for an unlock code.

Can I use my locked phone with another SIM card overseas?

We recommend unlocking your phone before heading overseas. That way you can use your 2degrees phone in lots of international destinations without the hassle of having to buy a SIM card at your destination.

Can I re-sell my locked phone?

Yes, you can. You can either unlock your 2degrees phone for free by yourself or advise the buyer to do so.

If I get my locked phone repaired, does it stay locked?

If you get your locked phone repaired, it will remain locked.
