A Watch Sidekick plan costs an extra $5 per month on top of your Pay Monthly mobile plan. This additional cost will be included on your Pay Monthly bill each month.
If you’re a new or existing customer, you can get a Watch Sidekick plan if you have an eligible Pay Monthly mobile plan or an eligible Business mobile plan with 2degrees.
Our Watch Sidekick plans are now available for Apple and Samsung wearables.
To set up your Watch Sidekick plan, purchase a watch and Sidekick plan from our online store, or visit a 2degrees store and our friendly staff can help. If you already have an eligible watch on the 2degrees network, you can activate your Watch Sidekick plan from your phone.
If you’re a business customer, talk with your 2degrees business representative, or visit us in-store and we can help set up a Watch Sidekick plan on your Business Pay Monthly account.
Make sure your iPhone is updated and you are on an eligible Pay Monthly mobile plan with 2degrees. Check your iPhone and Apple Watch are paired via Bluetooth before starting.
- Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, scroll down to Mobile and tap Add a new plan
- Tap Set Up Mobile and enter your My 2d account username (email address) and password, then tap Login
- Select Watch Sidekick plan and tap Continue
- Read the terms and conditions, tick the box to agree, then tap Accept
- If successful, a confirmation screen will appear and your Watch Sidekick will be activated. Tap Done
Note: Your Watch Sidekick plan will show a different number on your bill than your phone’s existing mobile number. This is just for billing purposes, your watch and phone still actually share the same number.
To activate on your Samsung Galaxy watch make sure you have the latest software on your Samsung Galaxy phone and you are on an eligible Pay Monthly mobile plan.
- Open the Galaxy Wearables app on your phone, tap Watch Settings, then tap Mobile plans
- Once you’re on the set up a mobile plan screen, tap Next
- Enter your My 2d account username (email address) and password, then tap Login
- Select Watch Sidekick plan and tap Continue
- Read the terms and conditions, tick the box to agree, then tap Accept
- Tap Sign-up to activate the Watch Sidekick plan
- If successful, a confirmation screen will appear when your Galaxy Watch is connected. Tap Done
- To link to your mobile plan, you will be asked if you want to use your Watch Sidekick plan. Tap Use plan
- Once set up is complete tap Done

Your watch can work without your phone close by.
- Calls can be made and received.

When making a call or sending a text to your mates from your watch, they will see your existing mobile number, just like they see when you call or text them from your phone.
Your Watch Sidekick plan uses the same amount of voice minutes, texts and data on your existing Pay Monthly mobile plan. For example, if your Pay Monthly plan gives you 10GB of carryover data, then your watch will use calls, text and data from this allocation.
Your Watch Sidekick plan can’t be used overseas at this stage. However, you are able to use your smart watch when travelling overseas. After enabling WiFi Calling on your phone (you only need to do this once), you need to connect to a WiFi network before your phone or smart watch automatically uses WiFi Calling.
When you’re travelling internationally and want to make a phone call on your mobile or smart watch, just remember to add the International Calling Code before the number - even if you're calling someone in that same country.
If you want to call 022 123 456, simply drop the ‘0’ and replace it with the country code which starts with ‘+’.
You can purchase a new watch Interest Free over 12, 24 or 36 months on an eligible Pay Monthly plan, with a $49 upfront payment. Visit any 2degrees store and our team can help you out, or purchase a new watch online.
Only one smart watch can be connected to your 2degrees Pay Monthly plan at a time. If you want to connect a different smart watch to your plan, you will need to disconnect your current smart watch, and then connect the new smart watch device to your 2degrees Pay Monthly plan instead.
You can’t remove your mobile data from your Watch Sidekick plan, without cancelling your Watch Sidekick plan and removing data or cancelling your 2degrees Pay Monthly plan as well.
If you're thinking of cancelling your Watch Sidekick plan, give us a call on 200 from your 2degrees mobile, 0800 022 022 from any New Zealand phone, or +64 22 200 2000 from overseas. Or you can deactivate you Watch Sidekick plan from your wearable app on your device.
In your settings make sure to select ‘Manage 2degrees Account’ to avoid an ongoing $5 monthly charge for your Watch Sidekick plan. By logging into My 2degrees and cancelling the plan directly, you won't continue to be charged, whereas simply selecting ‘Remove plan’ in your phone settings may result in ongoing charges.
If you cancel your Watch Sidekick plan part way through a month, you’ll only be charged up to the date of cancellation.
If you bought a watch from us with an Interest Free Repayment Option cancelling your Watch Sidekick plan will mean the remaining balance will need to be paid in full on your next bill. To find your total balance owing check your My 2degrees App under the ‘Interest free repayments’ section.
Note: once cancelled, your device will no longer be able to access the 2degrees mobile network – but you’ll still be able to use Bluetooth and WiFi.
Data Sidekick FAQs
A Data Sidekick plan is available to anyone with an active Carryover, Endless, Unlimited or Group Pay Monthly plan.
The Data Sidekick plan cannot be purchased on its own. You’ll need to link it to an active 2degrees Pay Monthly plan.
You need an eligible Pay Monthly plan to use your Data Sidekick plan. Check out our Pay Monthly plans or switch your existing Prepay to Pay Monthly through My 2degrees.
The Data Sidekick plan does not have its own data allocation. Instead, it shares data from the Pay Monthly plan it’s linked to.
Manage your data by using the 2degrees NZ app to share data in two ways:
- Open Sharing - Both your mobile and data sharing device use data on a first-come-first-served basis. This is the default setting for all Data Sidekick plans. Standard Shared data terms and conditions apply.
- Monthly Allowance - Only a chunk of your Pay Monthly Plan’s data will be allocated to your data sharing device every month.
Endless data is only available on your Pay Monthly mobile plan. If you have used all of you Max Speed data, you will need to buy one of our Add-ons to keep using data on your Data Sidekick plan.
The Data Sidekick plan has been designed to be used with data only devices such as tablets, laptops or mobile hotspotting devices.
Yes, you can. But these will be charged at standard casual rates so we wouldn’t recommend it. If you need another plan to make calls and texts, then check out our Group plans for better value.
Yes, either your data sharing device or mobile phone will trigger the Daily Roaming charge each day.
You can purchase your new tablet Interest Free over 12, 24 or 36 months with our Data Sidekick plan, with a $49 upfront payment either online or at any 2degrees retail store.

- Wireless broadband speeds can be impacted by the distance between your modem and a cell site, the level of usage of a particular cell site by others, and network capability.

- You can also check your personal broadband data usage through our app or online at My 2degrees. Depending on your usage, you can then decide if you want to switch plans.
- If your plan includes a modem from us, it will be capable of delivering the speeds we advertise for the plan you’ve chosen. But we cannot make the same guarantees if you choose to bring your own modem.
- If you choose to add a landline to your broadband plan, you can bring your existing landline number with you. This applies even if you are switching from a copper line connection to a VoIP connection. Alternatively, you can also ask for a new landline number to be assigned to your 2degrees account.
- Wireless Broadband uses different technology than Fibre Broadband. For any 3rd party service that requires broadband such as medical alarms, security alarms or any service that requires a fixed landline, we recommend you check with your provider to ensure it is compatible with Wireless Broadband before signing up to this service.

Delivery:
Please note that we can only deliver purchases from the Online Shop to physical addresses in New Zealand, this doesn’t include PO Boxes or Private Bags. Once you’ve submitted your order, we’ll email you confirmation and a track and trace number, so that you can follow your delivery. Auckland addresses should receive their order the ‘next working day’. For addresses outside of Auckland, delivery of your items could take up to two working days. Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee delivery times, this means we can’t be liable for any loss, cost or expense caused by delay in delivery. Before couriers are able to hand over your order, they require a signature. Please ensure you have submitted an address where someone is able to sign for you, if you’re not there, they may leave a card for you to call them to rearrange delivery. If the item is marked as delivered but somehow you have not received the item, please contact us as soon as possible on 0800 022 022 and we will do our best to lodge an investigation with courier post. Returns:
Faulty or incorrect items:
If for any reason the handset or SIM card we send you isn’t exactly what you ordered, or turns out to be faulty, please contact us on 0800 022 022 as soon as possible and we’ll send you a postage-paid courier bag so you can send the order back to us. Please ensure all of the packaging that came with the device, is returned in the courier bag. If somehow the device we sent you turns out to be faulty as soon as you open it up then we will replace it for you at no cost. Just call us within 7 days of purchasing your device on 0800 022 022 and we will send you a courier bag so you can return it. Change of mind:
In the instance you have changed your mind, or you wish to cancel a Plan, please see the ‘Change your Mind Guarantee’ section in the full terms and conditions.
Manufacturer's warranty:
If the device you purchased from us stops working at some point during the applicable manufacturer's warranty period, just call us on 0800 022 022 and we will let you know how you can return the device for repair. Warranty claims are also subject to the other terms and conditions that you’ll find in the manufacturer’s warranty that you’ll get with your handset. If you need to send a mobile device back for repair or replacement, there is the chance you might permanently lose any contacts, ringtones, messages, games or other downloads that you have saved into your handset. 2degrees isn’t responsible for any loss of data from your handset in the case of repair or replacement.
